Summary : Country house constructed during the early 18th century and enlarge by William Atkinson in 1824-7, possibly on the site of a medieval moated house. The house is built of ashlar with hipped slate roof and rendered stacks. The principal range is aligned north-south, Atkinson added flanking wings aligned east-west, the wings are attached to the main block by short links and the resulting structure encloses three sides of an eastern entrance courtyard. In 1958 the building was in use as the headquarters of the West Midland Division of the National Coal Board.
