| Summary : The nave of the monastic church at Bolton Priory. The priory demonstrates the usual layout of a monastic church with an east to west orientated church forming the north side of the cloister. The nave, or main body of the church, stands to full height and is still roofed. The east end of the nave was blocked off at the Dissolution and is now used as the parish church. The church dates to the late 12th century with various alterations dating to the 13th, 14th and 16th centuries. It was restored as a parish church in 1875-80 by GE Street. The church is constructed from ashlar, coursed squared stone with a lead roof. An uncompleted 16th century tower hides the 13th century west front. Listed Grade I. |
