Summary : Possible site of milecastle indicated by geophysical survey; no visible surface remains.
More information : (Area NY 4555 6090) "The measured position of Milecastle 61 (Wallhead) is a little east of Wallhead Farm". (1) Nothing visible on the ground. (2) The position of the milecastle may be attested by an area of high resistance in a geophysical survey. There is no surface trace of the milecastle; the field is improved pasture with an amorphous, slightly undulating surface. (3-3a) This location falls within the area mapped from aerial photographs by English Heritage's Hadrian's Wall NMP, but the milecastle was not identified during that survey. (4)
