Summary : Franciscan Friary founded some time between 1224 and 1244. Following the dissolution the site was used as a quarry for building stone, but the buildings were extent until the mid 19th century when the site was redeveloped for use as a carpet factory. Excavations have located the eastern area of the friary church and part of the dormitory range on the eastern side of the cloister.

A house of Franciscan (Grey ) Friars was found at Bridgnorth in 1244 and dissolved in 1538. It stood outside the town walls on the west bank of the Severn between the river and Friar Street. Nothing now remains of the Friary the site being covered by a carpet factory. (2-4)

General history of the house. (5)

Excavations in 1985 located the east end of the church and part of the east side of the cloister. The buildings excavated are thought to include the dormitory with reredorter behind. (6)
