More information : [NY 4825 3060] Long Barrow [O.E.] (1)
Referring to two long barrows [includes NY 43 SE 3] mentions urns being found several years ago. Several loads of sand and gravel were recently removed from the W. side and no stones or other items of interest revealed. Scheduled as a Long Cairn. (2-3)
A much mutilated long barrow with heavy stone content, 1.5m. high: there is no evidence of a ditch or retaining circle, nor has it a prominent end. Resurveyed at 1/2500. (4)
Newton Reigny I. The mound is orientated almost due N/S and appears to be more or less rectangular in shape. It is 29m long, with a maximum width of 13m towards the north end, where it is 1.30m high. Rounded boulders are visible along the spine of the mound and towards the north end. It appears convincing as an antiquity only when viewed from the west. There is a small quarry nearby to the east, and the possibility of quarry tipping must be considered. A dubious antiquity. (5)
