Putley Castle

Hob Uid: 112002
Location :
County of Herefordshire
Putley
Grid Ref : SO6485037320
Summary : Small mound with a stunted tree, supposed site of Putley Castle. No trace of the mound or the tree were found during field survey in 1971.
More information : All that remains (of Putley Castle) is a small mound
with a stunted tree on the top. It evidently consists of stones
overgrown with grass. One of the oldest inhabitants told me that
it has always been known as 'Putley Castle', and he remembered
quite a lot of the wall standing when he was a boy. Some of the
wells (?walls) at Newtons Farm have been built of the stones and
also the lodge gates of Putley Court. (SO 6485 3732 - sited from
plan). (1)

Site of castle and moat 1/2m SE of Putley Court. (2)

No trace of a mount at the indicated site or in the immediate
vicinity. (3)
