More information : (NY 49432191 to 49022235). An avenue of stones was noted by Taylor running between a number of cairns and cairn-circles on Moor Divock, but the RCHM does not think that the portions which they could find (some 20 yards and 85 yards NW of one cairn (NY 42 SW 8) provide sufficient evidence to say whether they were artificially placed. Taylor describes a row of five stones set at distances of 12 feet, 20 feet and 27 feet, flanked apparently by two stones (one on his map) 89 yards NW of the cairn-circle (NY 42 SE 7); a double row of three stones set at distances of 18 feet, with 20 feet between the rows, about 50 yards NW of the above stone row and 20 yards SE of a cairn (NY 42 SE 8); a double row of stones about 18 yards from this cairn running to a point about 45 yards short of a stone circle (NY 42 SE 21(a)). They comprise the best preserved portion of the avenue. There are 13 stones on one side and 11 on the other, those on the north side being set closer than those on the south, and distances varying from 6 feet to 24 feet. The rows are between 15 and 25 feet apart; west of stone circle (NY 42 SE 21(b)), the avenue curves towards stone circle (NY 42 SE 21(d)). It consists of 5 stones on one side and three on the other, each up to 20 yards apart; beyond the latter stone circle (at 35 yards and 60 yards distance) are two standing stones, perhaps the remains of a stone row, which align upon the White Raise cairn (NY 42 SE 22) some 200 yards away. (1-2) There is now certainly nothing on the ground to corroborate Taylor's avenue. Perambulation of its postulated course reveals only small and occasional embedded boulders which appear to have no general alignment. (3)
NY 49242222 - NY 49172228 Askham Fell stone alignment. The monument is situated on a line between White Raise round cairn (NY 42 SE 8) and Askham Fell ring cairn (NY 42 SE 7). It is divided into two areas by a natural sink hole. The easterly part includes two virtually parallel alignments of irregularly spaced stones 6m-9m apart, orientated approximately north west - south east, and running for a length of 70m. There are 15 stones in the nothern line ans seven stones in the southern line. Some of the stones remain upright while others appear to have fallen. The maximum height of the stones is 0.3m. At the south east end there is a slight bank up to 0.1m high and 1m wide that continues the southernmost alignment of the stones for a further 8m. The western part of the monument continues approximately on the same alignment as the northern line of stones for a further 44m and includes seven irregularly spaced stones up to 0.45m high; scheduled.
