More information : [SO 60542820] EARTHWORK [LB]. (1)
Unclassified camp about 1/2 ml east of the Church. It consists of an L-shaped length of scarped hillside with the arms projecting towards the NE and SW and apparently largely natural. Below the NE arm is a smaller scarp, probably later in date and constructed in connection with a cart track above it. Apart from the fact that the locality is traditionally called 'Camp Field', there is little definite evidence of the existence of a camp. In bad condition. (2)
The published feature, correctly described, is entirely natural. Camp Field is a good situation for an earthwork, but there are no apparent remains of one. (3)
SO 606282. Possible remains of a small motte, much ploughed out, revealed by field investigation undertaken by the Woolhope Club Archaeological Research Section 1981-82. (4) |
