Summary : Traditional site of a castle of unspecified date. A stone found on the site is held in Shrewsbury Museum. Earthworks of a possible enclosure, an elongated mound and hollow ways of unknown date were mapped from aerial photographs.
More information : (SO 53869762) "Traditional site of old castle. Specimen stone from this site presented to Shrewsbury Museum 10.7.51 by Mrs. Hayward." (1) A number of earthwork features were located at this site on aerial photographs. The features included a possible incomplete sub-circular enclosure at SO 5377 9751, defined by a bank with a diameter of 75m. To the north-east at SO 5384 9766 is an elongated bank 170m long, at SO 5391 9772 is a small banked rectangular enclosur 16m x 28m and tho the east and north are hollow ways. It is possible that these features are associated with the supposed site of the castle described by the previous authority. (2)
