Wilsford 60

Hob Uid: 1110539
Location :
Wiltshire
Wilsford cum Lake
Grid Ref : SU1177039790
Summary : A Bronze Age bowl barrow, listed by Grinsell as Wilsford 60 and part of the barrow group recorded as SU 13 NW 1. Excavated in the early 19th century by Colt Hoare, who found a primary inhumation, plus a secondary cremation with two whetstones (one perforated), a flint knife, a flint point, a bronze dagger, a bone macehead and a polished bone plaque. Note however that there is some confusion over the attribution of some of these finds to this barrow. All the objects are in Devizes Museum. The barrow is extant as an earthwork mound 1.8 metres in height and 29 metres in diameter; there is now no trace of a surrounding ditch but the monument is heavily overgrown.
More information : Principle sources. (1-5)

Wilsford 60: a substantial bowl barrow, up to 1.8m high; there is now no sign of the surrounding ditch seen by previous investigators (6, 7) but the barrow is heavily overgrown; surveyed at 1:1000. (8)
