Summary : Newby Demesne Farmhouse and adjoining outbuilding. Built in the mid 19th century, in Scottish baronial style, probably for Thomas Henry Graham of nearby Edmond Castle. It consists of a two and a half storey tower with a two storey extension of two and three bays. The tower has a corbelled battlemented parapet with crow-stepped gables. Built of hammer dressed red sandstone with brick chimney stacks and a Welsh slate roof. The farmyard facade is of mixed red and yellow sandstone with river cobbles.The adjoining outbuilding is at right angles to the farmhouse and has plank doors and sash windows. |
