More information : (SO 530253) Gillow Manor (NR) Moat (NR) Chapel (NR). (1) Gillow Manor is in four ranges built round a rectangular courtyard and dates from the latter part of the 14th c. The projecting gatehouse on the SW front and the block adjoining it on the NW are original, as are also some of the courtyard walls. Alteration and rebuilding of some parts took place in the 16th and 17th c. The moat formerly surrounded the house and formed a square outer enclosure on the SW side. (2) Manorial chapel symbol at 'Gilloch'. (3) Symbol for "old foundations or ruined chapels" at "Gillon". (4) Remains of St David's chapel are incorporated in the foundations of Gillow manor. (5) Gillow Manor, a large stone farmhouse in good order. Apart from the interesting gatehouse and adjoining chapel, both probably L 14th c., also several large outside chimneys, the house is not outstanding, having been completely refenestrated and re-roofed with grey slate, and additional modern chimneys have been added. The surviving NW arm of the moat has been remodelled as an ornamental garden feature. There are no traces of the moat's former course around the house nor of the alleged square outer enclosure on the SW side. Published 1:2500 survey revised. (6) Listed Grade 2*. (7)
