Summary : An Iron Age or Roman enclosure group and field system, possibly a villa site, seen as cropmarks on air photos.
More information : The cropmark of a sub-square enclosure is visible at TA 2380 3313. The enclosure is defined by a broad ditch (4-6m wide) with a possible east-facing entrance. Also, on its southern and part of its eastern side there is a second outer ditch; it is not clear whether this totally circumnavigates the enclosure. The dimensions of the inner enclosure are approximately 40m by 40m. Possible Iron Age/Roman date. (1-1a) Further photography of cropmarks in 1999 showed that the enclosure described above is just one in a group of conjoined rectilinear enclosures, centred at TA 23843315. The enclosure described by authority one is at the northwest end of the group and is attached to a larger enclosure which itself has further enclosures attached on its southeast side. It is possible that they represent the remains of a Roman villa. There are also traces of a contemporary field system around the enclosure group. (2)
