A fragment of a Roman Altar 37 inches long and 12 inches broad was
found two fields from the New Inn, Cardewlees (2) in 1896 (3). (2-3)

The badly cut inscription appears to have been deliberately erased,
but the dedication may have been to Jupiter (2).
