Brinsop Court

Hob Uid: 108004
Location :
County of Herefordshire
Brinsop and Wormsley
Grid Ref : SO4459145777
Summary : Moated house, set around a courtyard. The northern, entrance, range is the earliest, built between circa 1300 and 1330. The south range dates from the mid 14th century, with the western half possibly remodelled in the early 16th century. Traces of a low west range, probably dating from the 14th century, survive but this was replaced by a higher, timber framed, range in the mid 16th century. The southern half of this range was rebuilt in the late 17th century and the courtyard side was refaced in brick in the mid 18th century. The present east range was built in 1913.
More information : (SO44594576) Brinsop Court (NR) Moat (NR). (1)

Brinsop Court is an interesting example of a large 14th century manor house. It indicates three periods of early 14th century work, with 16th and 17th century alterations (see plans). In the mid 18th century part of the W range was refronted in brick and in 1913 the modern E range was built. A moat surrounds the house. (2)

Brinsop Court is as described above. The moat has been altered in recent times and it is doubtful if any of the original inner bank remains. The outer bank appears to be original.
