Summary : Benedictine or possibly Augustinian nunnery founded 1139 dissolved 1536 on site of earlier anchoresses cell mentioned 1130.
More information : Kilburn. The priory of St Mary and St John the Baptist was founded in 1139 which superseded an earlier hermitage which had three anchoresses circa 1130. In 1377 it was reported that the revenues could not support the convent which had to support much hospitality, being on the high road [Kilburn High Road]. The Augustinian order is occasionally recorded but others give Benedictine, to which the last prioress is stated to have belonged. Dissolved in 1536. (1)
