Summary : Earthwork remains of a Motte and Bailey Castle. A motte 3 metres high and 30 metres in diameter. It is surrounded by a dry ditch, the south side of which was filled in 1930 during the construction of a water pipeline from the Elan Valley. Some 13th to 14th century pottery has been found on the site. Scheduled.

Mound about 94 ft in diameter at the base and rises about 9 or 10 ft above the surrounding ground. The ditch round the mound is interrupted on the SW side by remains of a causeway. (2)

Motte and bailey castle. (3)

A motte 3.0m high has an overall diameter of 30.0 m. It was surroundedby a dry ditch, the south side of which was filled in in 1930 during the construction of a water pipeline from the Elan Valley (a). There is no trace of masonry on the motte and no evidence of a bailey.

Shoesmith states there were two baileys and that 13th to 14th century pottery has been found on the site. (6)

The motte and its outer ditch are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs, and have been mapped RCHME's Marches Uplands Mapping Project. (7-8)
