Summary : A possible Bronze Age round barrow is visible as cropmarks of a ring ditch in aerial photographs. The ring ditch has a diameter of 31m. A ground based survey by RCHME suggested that a spread of lighter coloured material in the centre may represent the remains of a small mound, perhaps indicating that this was a disc barrow. Blore et al (1995) simply describe it as a ring ditch with central pit visible. A recent English Heritage survey using aerial photographs found no trace of a central mound or pit. It is possible the barrow is part of a small barrow cemetery as four further ring ditches are situated in the immediate vicinity (SU 13 NW 93, 95,178-9.) |
More information : SU13103905 A levelled bowl barrow located 300m north west of Lake House. The barrow is difficult to identify on the ground. The ditch survives as a buried feature and a 1984 survey by RCHME indicates the barrow to be 35m in diameter. A spread of lighter material in the centre may represent the remains of a small mound, perhaps indicating that htis was a disc barrow. (1)
