Summary : A possible Bronze Age bowl barrow recorded during RCHME survey in 1992 and described as a low oval mound circa 20 metres by 16 metres, surviving to a height of 0.75 metres. A concentration of flint nodules was noted over the area of the mound. The English Heritage scheduling notification describes it as an oval mound 26 metres by 21 metres and 0.4 metres high, surrounded by a (presumably cropmark) ditch which gives an overall diameter of circa 31 metres by 26 metres. The cropmark, presumably associated with the mound, has been mapped from aerial photographs and is visible as an incomplete ring ditch with a diameter of 28m. The barrow possibly forms part of a small barrow cemetery as three further ring ditches (described in SU 13 NW 94, 95 and 178-9) are visible in the vicinity. |
