MONUMENT NO. 1063603

DESCRIPTION + /

Terrace of five-roomed cottages on the south side of Reading Street in the Railway Village. The terrace was designed by Brunel and constructed in 1847. It was one of the last large terraces to be constructed on the eastern side of the Railway Village. The cottages offered more superior accomodation than others in the village and were designed for use by single families probably of foremen, possibly in conjunction with lodgers. The rear yard contained a wash house, privy and dust hole. The houses were renovated in 1974 and constructed of stone rubble, ashlar and brick with slate roofs.
