Summary : Probable Prehistoric and Romano-British settlement consisting of hut circles and enclosures surviving as earthworks. Small circles on limestone have been proved to be simple limekilns.
More information : Gauber Limekiln Pasture. SD 761 788. A group of prehistoric hut circles and enclosures, surveyed and excavated but no dating evidence was found. A total of twenty six hut circles were noted, mostly on Silurian and Millstone Grit outcrops. Those on limestone have proved to be the remains of simple limekilns. (1-2) Hut circle and enclosure group at SD 761 788, located and surveyed at 1:2500. (3) SD 761 788. Site now under pasture and remains some 0.3m high. 1:2500 Divorced Survey correct, transferred to 1:10000 Master Survey Diagram. (4)
