Hob Uid: 1043928
Location :
Norfolk
Breckland
Great Cressingham, Gooderstone, South Pickenham, Ashill, Saham Toney, Cockley Cley, Shipdham
Grid Ref : TF8250003500
Summary : Likely course of a Roman road running from Gooderstone to Shipham, associated with known Roman sites extending from a fork from the Fenland Causeway into central Norfolk and based on a good alignment of modern roads and other features. There are no proven features.
More information : A route thought to be part of a 'fork from the Fenland Causeway running into central Norfolk' because of a good alignment of modern roads and other features, the proximity of the Ashill Romano-British enclosure, and presumable obstruction by the Panworth Ditch [also known as Devils Dyke - See associated Monument Records]. There are no obvious Roma terminii or identifiable structural features. [See O.S. Linear archive RRX 111 for bibliography to 1977, field observations from 1978 and route extent map]. (1)
