More information : OSIER BEDS at SJ 3492 7036 (GCE). Two low-lying rectangular areas are visible on the reclaimed floodplain immediately to the south of the site of Shotwick Castle. They are defined by discontinuous circumscribing banks 0.2-0.5m in height and were supplied with stream water via channels which largely survive as degraded earthwork features. These post-medieval beds are now dis-used, and one has been reverted to pasture.
The above description is summarised from a detailed level 3 RCHME 1:1000 scale survey conducted in January 1996. The results of the survey have been deposited in the NMR. (1) |
