Summary : A college of secular canons and grammar school founded in 1439 by Ralph, Lord Cromwell; built of brick between 1454 and 1460, after the death of its patron, now surviving partly as ruins. The chantry college to which it was attached was dissolved in 1545, but the school is thought to have continued for some time afterwards, possibly into the late 17th century. In the late 18th century it was converted to form part of the Tattershall Brewery. The building is constructed of red brick with limestone Ashlar dressings and comprises two storeys (with a later cellar). The site is in the care of English Heritage. |
