More information : A Second World War searchlight battery was mapped from poor quality air photographs. The following features were identified:-
2 rows of building platforms were seen as earth and stone foundations, approximately 78m long, centred at SK 9936 1560. Four gun emplacements were seen as circular earthwork enclosures, approximately 8m in diameter. Three of these had defining ditches running around their southern edges. They are situated at SK 9932 1548, SK 9939 1552, SK 9941 1555 and SK 9938 1556. 3 searchlight emplacements were seen as earthworks (centred at SK 9936 1552) and 1 was seen as a cropmark (centred at SK 9938 1558). Two are defined by 1 bank only and the other 2 are defined by 2 banks and 1 ditch, enclosing a rectangular space in the centre. They are all approximately 14m in diameter, and each has an entrance.
