More information : SK 933 928. Lost settlement of Helpesthorpe is undocumented except in the 14th and 15th centuries, as `the hamlet of Helpesthorpe'; whose tithes formed an adjunct to the manor of Willoughton. It is likely that this is to be identified with a rectangular block of properties on the SE of the larger settlement, clear on the enclosure award of 1769, but now broken up by the gardens of 19th century villas. Two Medieval boundary ditches at SK 9334 9285 and SK 9335 9299, were visible as earthworks and mapped from good quality air photographs. They form part of enclosures within the planned settlement of Helpesthorpe, described by the previous authority, which is possibly associated with the Medieval Monastic Grange of Monk's Garth to the NW (recorded in SK 99 SW 6).
