More information : RR 27 Roman Road. Lincoln - Burgh-le-Marsh. Leaving Lincoln by the Wragby Road the alignment is followed, slightly east of north-east for six miles to Langworth, as a fine raised road 3-4 feet high, accompanied by parish boundaries. Just before the railway crossing is reached, the present road diverges to the south and the alignment is marked by a hedgerow with clear traces of the agger, running behind the houses to where a stream crosses it. Just beyond this, the main road joins the alignment as far as Bullington. The course is then doubtful for the next three miles until near Wragby where a lane marks the start of a new alignment, pointing south of east and designed to skirt the southern edge of the Wolds. After a short interval a straight lane running for two miles south of Panton marks it, showing in places an agger 30 feet wide and up to 2 feet high. A divergence from the alignment then occurs a little to the south, where an agger is clearly visible in a green lane along a ridge. Beyond Sotby the original alignment is resumed as a wide green lane, showing remains of the agger, to near Belchford. At the end of the straight lane near Belchford, hedgerows, a green lane and part of Tetford village street mark it for three miles. Beyond Tetford Church no trace is visible until about a half a mile from Ulceby Cross where a hedgerow with a trace of agger marks the line on a new alignment directed south-east to Burgh le Marsh. From the inn at Ulceby the present straight road, generally raised 2-3 feet, represents it past Skendleby. Where the modern road turns off, a lane continues on the line with distinct traces of the agger, 30 feet wide and 1- 2 feet high, passing the western edge of Welton High Wood. Beyond Candlesby Hill a hedgerow on the same line marks it up to the east side of Welton vicarage, but beyond this there is no trace until, on the northern outskirts of Burgh-le-Marsh, the lane back to Orby marks the line for half a mile. This is the last certain portion of the alignment, which if continued beyond Burgh-le-Marsh would have crossed the marshes to the coast, possibly to the south of Skegness. Recent field work by the Ordnance Survey (c) has confirmed the course at Langworth and between Tetford, Ulceby and Burgh-le-Marsh. (1)
