More information : 2entred NT 879223. A series of strip lynchets found during field investigation. (1) Cultivation Terraces (LB). (2) Situated on the lower eastern slope of the Schill are several badly eroded cultivation terraces. Published survey (1:10 000) correct. (3) This system of cultivation terraces lies immediately SW of Mounthooly Farm, and is directly associated with a scooped settlement (NT 82 SE 3). The terraces are located on the lower more gradual slopes which have an average 14 degree angle but where this becomes steeper the terraces peter out. The terraces have max height of 1.4m, although thescarps are not very pronounced, and several of them have irregular clearance cairns heaped over these scarps. A wall no more than 1.5m side and 0.5m high, arcs along the contours roughly in the centre of the system, and may be a contemporary field boundary. Settlement NT 82SE 3 is integrated into this system, and the terraces run up almost tothis site, and are also laid off the hollow way which leads up to the settlement, suggesting they form a contemporaneous agricultural system. A part of this same series of terraces extends N of the modernplantation which partially overlies settlement NT 82 SE 3. (4)
