Summary : A Roman inscribed slate tombstone probably from the Roman fort of Galava was rediscovered in 1962 during the insertion of a soak away at Wanlass Howe.
More information : (NY 374034) Roman tombstone of slate found October 1962,
while putting in a soak-away drain to extensions in the grounds of
Wanlass Howe, Bears inscriptions to a retired centurion and to a
record-clerk "killed in the fort by the enemy". The "fort" is the
nearby Galava and the stone may be the one recorded in Arch J X1
1864 395 as found beside the east gate of the fort and then lost. (1)
