More information : (Previously recorded by the Ordnance Survey as NY 96 NE 2.4)
(NY 997 685) Courses of two roads shown issuing from N gate of fort.(1)
An air photograph (2a) shows roads leading N and NE from the porta praetoria. There are also grounds for thinking that the road S from the porta decumana was continued towards Corstopitum, probably joining Dere Street some distance N of that site. (2)
There are no visible traces on the ground of any road N or S of the fort. Both areas have been extensively cultivated, leaving flat featureless fields on the N, and pronounced ridge-and-furrow to the S. Nothing is visible on available RAF air photographs. (1946). (3)
No trace and no further information in general area NY 99 68. (4)
A Roman road is visible as a cropmark on air photographs centred at NY 9973 685. The road can be seen running northwards in the northern part of the fort. It then exits through the north gate and branches to the north and north-east. (5) |
