More information : A possible Roman road connecting the Templeborough to Doncaster road (RR 710c) near Conisbrough, with the Roman Ridge (RR 28b) near Shelbrooke. A series of trenches were cut in April and August 1930. In the report Kitson Clarke (1) stated that the road so far examined rested on 17th century quarry material and bore no trace of Roman origin, but Whiting considered that the present road overlays an earlier road of unknown date, which could be Roman. In 1950, Smedley refers to the road as `The Roman British Way' (2)
The major part of this route is represented by a series of connecting lanes, trackways and stretches of modern road. No evidence was seen to classify it as Roman. (3)
