More information : ST59257320 to ST59267304 Castle ditch, as shown on Ashmead's map of Bristol, 1827, when it was still open. It was fed by a branch from the River Frome, and, although culverted in the late 19th century, still runs under Lower Castle Street, the ambulance station and into Floating Harbour.

ST59187316 to ST59187306 Deep, dry fosse leading from the Avon across Castle Street and through Newgate Course revealed during excavations in 1970. (1-2)
