Summary : Hall and Palace constructed c. 1239-42 and improved 1250 |
More information : ST 59387312 Hall and Palace. A new hall was built in the castle in 1239-42, and improved c 1250. William Worcester gives its dimensions as 108ft by 54ft. A 13th century vaulted building still surviving is probably the porch of the hall; the purpose of another vaulted chamber which adjoins it is less certain, though attempts have been made to identify it with the King's Chapel. These two buildings have sometimes been referred to as the Crypt Vaulted Chambers. Grade II. Scheduled. (1-5) |
