Summary : Roman pottery kiln located under the road just byond the east gate of the 3rd century fort; of permanent type with a raised floor; the pottery is of Trajanic date and may have supplied the earlier (unlocated) fort.
More information : During the excavation of Piercebridge fort a Roman pottery kiln was
uncovered under the road just outside the east gate. It was of the
permanent self-supporting type with an oven floor and the pottery
was dated to the Trajanic period. It may have supplied the
(unlocated) fort which preceeded the 3rd century one.
