MONUMENT NO. 11589

Earthwork remains of a Medieval motte measuring 96 feet by 75 feet with a tower at the south angle. There is no visible sign of a bailey. Scheduled. A Mediaeval manor house which was probably adjacent to the motte, was demolished prior to 1603. The motte is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs, and has been mapped by English Heritage's Hadrian's Wall NMP.
