1996 Watching Brief SITE OF STAINING HALL, CHAIN LANE

A watching brief was carried out during ground works at the site of a medieval moated house known as Staining Hall. Evidence of the moat was recorded along with several pieces of substantial structural oak timbers, suggesting that the original hall probably comprised a timber structure.
